Wide Input Voltage Range Enables Flexibility in Supertex's New Current Sensor17 March 2006
Supertex (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leaderin high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), todayintroduced the HV7800, a new high side, current sensing IC. The IC featuresa very wide operating range of 8V-450V DC, which allows it to work with DCpower systems of 12V, 24V, and 48V, as well as off-line AC systems of 85Vto 265V. The IC operates by sensing the voltage across an external resistorand transmitting this reading to the ground-referenced circuit at a gain ofone with a typical accuracy of ±1%. High side current sensing allows the ground to be undisturbed when sensinginput or load currents. Grounding system impedances in low side currentsensing often cause signal degradation or electromagnetic interference.Because the HV7800 is designed to be used on the high side of a circuit, itavoids these sensing problems and provides a much easier sensingimplementation. "The wide input voltage range of the HV7800 allows it to be used to monitorcurrent in telecom and base station applications, power managementapplications, and LCD TVs with LED backlight applications in which theHV7800 is recommended for use in conjunction with our recently introducedLED driver IC, the HV9911," states Ahmed Masood, Vice President ofMarketing for Supertex. "The IC solves many current sense design problems-- high voltage, high precision, fast response time and spaceconsiderations." The HV7800 is available in a SOT23-5 package (HV7800K1-G). The part is"Green" and RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-timefor production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$0.56 each for theHV7800K1-G in 1K quantities.
