Telvent to Provide Its Technology for Directorate General of Traffic to Help Improve Road Safety in Spain

Telvent GIT S.A. (NASDAQ: TLVT), the Global RealTime IT Company today announced that it has signed two contracts with the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) in Spain to install a new traffic control center and the speed traps in Madrid for the DGT. The value of both projects exceeds 11 million euro and will be carried out under a Joint Venture with Indra Sistemas, a Spanish information technology company.

The DGT's new traffic control center will be equipped with the most advanced technologies to improve traffic flow, increase road safety and control the information on roadway incidents.

The center will also enable the centralizing of information on the state of traffic in Spain from more than 1,500 data acquisition stations, closed circuit television cameras and from information provided by the National Institute of Meteorology. In addition, drivers will be able to access this information through the DGT's web page, variable information panels on the roads themselves, and through the media.

Also, forty speed traps will be installed around Madrid. These speed traps will be connected to the new control center and, if drivers exceed the established speed limits, will transmit the data required to formulate the corresponding fine.

The most notable projects include the traffic regulation and centralized control system for Ceuta, the safety and security systems for the tunnels between San Isidro bridge and Praga bridge which will allow the Madrid M-30 highway to run underground, the upgrading of the Tabasa tunnels, the implementation and management of the Ocaño to La Roda highway smart traffic systems, and the access networks to Galicia through the Piedrahita sector.
