Staples Offers Electronics Recycling at Home Office Expo and Select Area Stores

10 May 2006

South Street Media, producers of the Home Office Expo, and Staples, lead sponsor of the Expo, announced today that Staples will kickoff a 15-day Recycling Event at the entrance of the Bayside Expo Center on June 2. During the entire run of the Home Office Expo, June 2 - 4, attendees can get $10 off the price of admission simply by bringing old computers, monitors, printers, laptops and fax machines for recycling. After the Home Office Expo ends on June 4, consumers can continue to easily and safely recycle electronic waste until June 17 by bringing it to Staples' newest stores in Somerville, Reading, Bedford, North Andover and Pembroke. Consumers who recycle at these five Staples stores will get a coupon for $10 off purchase at these participating stores. Visit http://www.staples.com and click on the "find a store link" at the top of page for directions.

"Staples is dedicated to helping reduce global electronic waste," said Val Pajer, district manager of Staples. "By teaming up with the Home Office Expo, we make it easy to safely and responsibly dispose of computers, monitors and other electronics. Staples' Recycling Event offers a convenient way to protect and preserve the beauty of Massachusetts communities."

Approximately 164,000 computers are discarded every day in the United States. Computers and other electronic devices are made of plastic, metal and glass that do not breakdown in landfills. Worse, some parts contain toxic materials and heavy metals. To combat this problem, Staples helps customers "get green" by staging electronic waste recycling events. Staples is committed to protecting the world's natural resources by developing and sourcing environmentally preferable products, providing recycling services for our customers and associates, supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy, and educating stakeholders about environmental issues.

In 2005 alone, Staples' sales of recycled paper and internal recycling efforts saved the equivalent of 2 million trees or 7,000 acres of forest -- equivalent to a land area equal to 175 Boston Public Gardens. Today, Staples offers over 2,900 items manufactured using post consumer recycled materials.

For items recycled at our stores June 2 through June 17, Staples will accept two computer items per customer. Consumers must pay a $10 recycling fee. In return, they will receive a $10-off coupon to use at these participating stores. For more information on the Staples' Recycling Event, contact your local staples store using the store locator on http://www.staples.com.

After depositing their old electronics outside, visitors can enter the event and check out the latest in home office technology and services on the exhibit floor. Staples, Vonage and Merrill Lynch are just a few of the companies exhibiting at the event. Additionally, Staples will be offering over $5,000 in special prize giveaways and product demonstrations at its exhibit space (booths 700, 702, 704, 801, 803, 805, 807, 809, 811).

The Home Office Expo is sponsored by Staples, Comcast Workplace, Sovereign Bank, The Boston Globe and Greater Media (96.9 FM Talk). Additional sponsorship and exhibiting opportunities are still available. For more information, visit http://www.HomeOfficeExpo.com or contact South Street Media at 484-625-4390.
