Silicon Image Unveils New Technologies and Programs to Provide a Richer Home Entertainment Experience for Consumers5 March 2006
Silicon Image, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in the secure distribution, presentation and storage of high-definition content, announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) a series of new products, enabling technologies, and programs geared at enhancing the consumer's experience of high definition. The series of announcements include: -- The industry's first deep color display interface chips, the Sil 7170 and Sil 7171 transmitter and receiver. The Sil 7170 and Sil 7171 enabl he deep color pipeline by delivering iTMDS, the next-generatio nternal link technology for high definition televisions (HDTVs). Wit ore than twice the bandwidth of comparable interface technologies, iTMDS enables manufacturers to build HDTVs that support deep color (30-bit and 36-bit red/green/blue color), for stunning rendering o ore than a billion colors in unprecedented detail. iTMDS also reduce ill of materials cost by lowering the cost of integrated circuits, cables and connectors. Silicon Image will deliver a pipeline o ransmitter and receiver products supporting deep color during 2006. -- Simplay Labs and the Simplay HD Testing Program, a compatibilit esting program for manufacturers of high definition consume lectronics devices, helping them to achieve compatibility for th ighest-quality HDTV experience. As part of the program launch, Simpla abs today unveiled the Simplay HD(TM) logo, new testing servic ptions, the Simplay HD website for manufacturers and consumers, an arketing programs with Monster Cable Products, Inc. and Tweeter Hom ntertainment Group Inc. -- SiI 8200 Video Processor, the first video processor to enable digita udio playback, photo display and video recording in mass-market HDTVs. With a 12-input video front-end, dual video processing paths enablin icture-in-picture (PIP) and picture-over-picture (POP), 3 otion-adaptive de-interlacing, scaling, frame rate conversion, an ultimedia engines for digital photos and digital audio (JPEG, WMA, MP3 and AAC), the SiI 8200 is a complete system solution for HDTVs. B ncorporating a 32-bit MIPS processor, the SiI 8200 is able to achiev reater performance while driving cost out of next-generatio elevision designs. -- SiI 9020 HDMI Transmitter Solution, the first discrete High-Definitio ultimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)) transmitter chip designe pecifically for the mobile market. The SiI 9020 will enabl anufacturers to easily add HDMI outputs to high definition video (HDV) camcorders and digital cameras, allowing consumers to display thei ideos and photos at the highest level of quality on their HDTVs. Unlike IEEE 1394 connections, which transfer compressed video, HDM llows users to directly transfer uncompressed video for uncompromise mage quality. -- SiI 9023 HDMI Receiver Solution, featuring dual HDMI inputs and full 1080p resolution for HDTVs. The SiI 9023 gives TV manufacturers ost-effective means of implementing multiple HDMI inputs an tandardizes design for easy implementation by current customers. -- SiI 4726 SteelVine(TM) Storage Processor, featuring five high-speed (3 gigabit per second) SATA-II ports and best-in-class performance. Th iI 4726 enables manufacturers to build affordable, reliable an calable storage solutions for the audio/video editing, smal ffice/home office and small to medium-sized business markets. The SiI 4726 is an integrated circuit that can be configured for internal o xternal applications. It delivers high-end features -- including aut ebuild, auto fail over, hot swap and hot spare -- while hiding th omplexity from end users. -- Leading PC manufacturers have selected the SiI 1930 and SiI 1390 HDM ransmitters to provide HDMI outputs on their multimedia desktop an otebook PCs, giving their customers unparalleled access to a new worl f premium digital content. PCs with HDMI allow consumers to transmi he highest-quality premium digital video and audio content, such as H ovies from HD-DVD or Blu-ray drives and HDTV tuners, to HDTVs an ther displays. Silicon Image detailed each of these announcements today in a series of press releases, which are available at http://www.siliconimage.com/news/press/ . Silicon Image is demonstrating its technology at CES 2006 this week in its suite at Harrah's Las Vegas. Silicon Image continues to benefit from its strategy of advancing the delivery of secure digital content in the home by developing cutting edge high-bandwidth technology, enlisting industry partners to embrace the technology as a standard on a no-cost or very-low-cost licensing basis, and developing industry-leading semiconductors and platforms based on that technology. "The transition to high-definition content demands an architecture for digital content delivery that is robust, high-performance and cost-effective," said Steve Tirado, president and CEO of Silicon Image. "With today's announcements, Silicon Image continues to drive the architecture and standards that will define the consumer electronics and PC markets of tomorrow." Silicon Image's technology development is focused in three core areas: -- Distribution and Presentation: Silicon Image creates the technolog olutions that are driving the transition to all-digital conten elivery, enabling the secure distribution of high-definition conten hroughout the home. -- Standards/Compliance Testing: Silicon Image is helping consumers t uture-proof their digital entertainment investments by creatin ndustry standards and compliance testing programs that enable seamles ompatibility among HD components in the home. The Simplay HD Testin rogram gives consumers confidence that they will be able to acces remium content on their HDTVs, PCs and other digital devices. -- Storage: The SteelVine Storage Architecture offers a robust solutio o meet the growing needs of consumers to store and protect thei ersonal digital assets, including photos, music, and videos in imple, reliable, secure, and cost-effective manner.
