Schneider Electric optimizes manufacturing operations to improve products and services and increase customer satisfaction29 September 2005
As part of Schneider Electric's manufacturing strategy to optimize its physical, technical and human resources both locally and globally, Schneider Electric Canada announced yesterday that the manufacturing operations carried on at the company's facility in Toronto, Ontario (Waterman Plant) will be closed effective July 31, 2006. "The outcome of this decision will be improved product and service offerings to our customers and an improved Canadian business for the benefit of Schneider Electric stakeholders", says Gary Abrams, President, Schneider Electric Canada. "Our decision - which affects approximately 160 hourly and 40 salaried positions - was a difficult one to make", continues Mr. Abrams. "However, we must continuously evaluate the way we deploy and utilize our manufacturing capacity to remain competitive in the electrical industry. We therefore made this decision to strengthen our competitiveness." The Waterman Plant's current manufacturing operations will be divided among the company's existing Canadian facilities - located in Mississauga, Ontario; Edmonton Alberta and Richmond, British Columbia - and a new Ontario facility - the Ontario Customer Solution Centre (location to be determined). Schneider Electric Canada will also transfer some production to manufacturing plants in the USA and Mexico.
