Philips Unveils New Semiconductor System Solutions Provide Quality and Intuitive Features in S24 November 2005
Royal Philips Electronics announced two semiconductor system solutions that will enhance set top box technologies. These will ensure next generation consumer devices are easy to use for the Connected Consumer and allow for a fast time-to-market and differentiating features for Consumer Electronics manufacturers. The announcements include the STB22x, a new family of STB platforms and the introduction of a Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compliant Digital Media Adaptor reference design based on the Nexperia PNX1500 media processor. Driving the STB Market with New Family of Complete STB Platforms Philips has developed the STB22x, a new family of complete STB platforms that bring together a validated turnkey STB design, third party software and world class support. It will allow CE makers to produce low cost STBs for cable, satellite and terrestrial broadcast with fast time-to-market. The STB22x offers support for standard definition Personal Video Recorder (PVR), dual-input dual-output, MPEG 2 and MPEG 4, and also integrates USB2.0 OTG and picture improvement features into the source decoder, to create a streamlined product. The STB22x family will be extended in the middle of 2006 with a High Definition (HD) source decoder to support H.264 HD and WM9 HD streams. Enhancing Nexperia Home Media Devices for Seamless Content Sharing Next generation Connected Consumers expect to seamlessly access digital media, such as music, video and images anywhere, anytime throughout the home from different devices. To support home consumer device manufacturers in meeting these needs, Philips has integrated the Nexperia PNX1500 media processor into a DLNA compliant DMA reference design, based on a partnership with leading software vendor Mediabolic. This reference design is available as a stand alone solution or can be integrated into TV designs. Availability All products will be available globally.
