Network Systems Design Conference to Be the Ultimate Sneak Peek; Best of Show Award to Honor Achievements By Participating Companies

20 October 2005

This week, more than a dozen companies will introduce new products and new architectures that will turn the network systems design industry on its ear. What's more, there is only one
place you can see all the new things in store -- the Network Systems Design Conference being held Oct. 18-20, 2004 in San Jose's Parkside Hall. Conference sessions start on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and the exhibition hours are Wednesday, Oct. 19 from noon to 6:30 p.m. and Thursday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NSDC 2005 will include the following highlights:
* The Best of Show Awards will honor the achievements of NPU-related
companies and the hottest new technologies at a ceremony on Wednesday,
Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall.
* Intel's Doug Davis will discuss the market's eventual move to an all
IP network and the key challenges facing equipment designers in his
keynote address.
* Conference sessions that address the particular challenges across
specific markets segments including broadband infrastructure, next-
generation broadband technologies, Metro Ethernet, security systems,
data-center equipment and other emerging technology including WiMAX.

In addition, the following NSDC exhibitors will demonstrate some exciting new products and services:

Neterion will conduct live demonstrations of true 10 Gigabit Ethernet line speeds using the company's Xframe(R) II adapters that are based on the PCI-X 2.0 bus architecture with Double Date Rate technology, along with servers equipped with AMD Opteron(TM) processors. The testing also demonstrates best-in-class CPU utilization (less than 15%).

Ample Communications will announce Eagle-12 and Eagle-24 -- additions toits family of integrated, multiport Ethernet MACs. The 12 and 24 port devices integrate SerDes, MAC, classification and congestion management logic. This significantly reduces overall equipment, footprint, power and cost by leveraging system resources across more customers.

The RapidIO(R) Trade Association (http://www.RapidIO.org ), presents the RapidIO Fabric Quick-Start Tutorial, October 18th, 8:30 a.m., and is featured in: Bus Wars - Which Interconnect Is Best for Networking Equipment, Why, and When?; HyperTransport, RapidIO, and PCI Express; Switch Fabric Directions, and the CTO Roundtable. See the RapidIO-technology demo, Booth 205.

IP Fabrics is dedicated to accelerating the application of network processing technology. IP Fabrics empowers a new era of networked systems by breaking down the software barriers for using network processor silicon and creating sophisticated networking equipment. This innovative approach, called 'PPL' is currently implemented on the Intel IXP28xx NPs.

Xilinx is demonstrating two new solutions for Networking & Telecom. The RPR demo shows multiple RPR nodes, implemented in Virtex-4 FPGAs, passing data/control plane traffic over a GE physical layer. Our Cell Switch demo shows a single-chip, 4-port cell switch w/ SerDes ports running in a single Virtex-II Pro FPGA.

The Linley Group will showcase its latest technology reports, including "A Guide to Access Processors," "A Guide to Next-Generation Wireless," and "A Guide to Switch Fabrics." The Linley Group provides the in-depth technology analysis and strategic consulting you need for making informed business decisions.

Fulcrum will showcase the PivotPoint family of SPI-4.2 board level switched interconnects that convert a fixed daisy-chain configuration of SPI- 4.2-based devices into a fully-reconfigurable pool of shared packet processing resources. The family of products includes the FM1010, featuring six fully bidirectional SPI-4.2 interfaces, and the FM1020, a three interface version.

Xelerated will demonstrate how its carrier-class network processor, the X11, enables cost-effective support of triple play services. Multicast traffic with guaranteed QoS will run on the X11 Reference Design Kit, a fully integrated, modular reference platform, also showing full interoperability between the X11 NPU and Dune Networks FAP20V traffic manager.

TeraChip specializes in scalable, high-performance silicon switching solutions for LAN, MAN and SAN applications. Visit booth 415 to hear about TeraChip interoperability with new network processing units/traffic managers, view TeraChip's new ATCA development system and learn about TeraChip's high- capacity switch fabrics, standards-based interfaces, multicast and QoS features.

Freescale Semiconductor and Jungo are showcasing a residential and business gateway platform solution at Booth #504. Based on Freescale's PowerQUICC(TM) II processor family and powered by Jungo's popular OpenRG and OpenSMB software platforms, the bundled solution is designed to shorten development cycles and accelerate time-to-market for customer premises equipment (CPE).

Freescale is unveiling content processing technology gained through a recent acquisition. True content processing extends beyond traditional packet-at-a-time inspection and requires full stream recovery of contents. Silicon-based content processing includes regular expression and pattern matching techniques for security-enabled equipment ranging from SOHO routers
to sophisticated unified threat management systems.

Freescale and Ashley Laurent are demonstrating an enterprise gateway based on the PowerQUICC III processor and Ashley Laurent's Broadway Organic Network Device (BOND) Enterprise Gateway (EG) software. The demo features radius authentication, GRE virtual interface, hub-and-spoke IPSec tunneling, content filtering, user- and zone-based policy modeling, PPTP server and GUI management.

LVL7 Systems will showcase new production-ready networking software from its FASTPATH L2/3/4+ portfolio. Designed for Ethernet system manufacturers, the demos feature LVL7's unique offerings for: chassis-based configurations (shown on Broadcom's StrataXGS III silicon); IPv6 capabilities on stackable systems; and innovative networking software optimized for small-medium business products and applications.

AMCC unveils the PRS40G-ATCA 40 Gbps Switch, the industry's first AdvancedTCA (ATCA) Cell Switch Blade providing both base switch and fabric switch in a single slot. The blade is based on the PICMG 3.0 ATCA standard and features carrier class capabilities described in the PICMG 3.6 Cell Switching draft specification.

Greenfield has introduced two generations of the Packetry(TM) switching solutions. The G8000 Family of Packet Processors delivers the industry's highest integration of Carrier Ethernet features and functionality. The G8000 Family supports IPv4/IPv6, MPLS, Layer 2/3 VPNs, IP/GRE tunneling, and all traffic management capabilities including hierarchical queuing and granular traffic policing/shaping.

Tarari features their newly released family of RegEx 4 products and will showcase accelerated hardware and software solutions from: Intoto (IntruPro -- intrusion prevention), Mail-Filters.com (StarEngine -- anti-spam solution) and Broadcom (SiByte communications processor). The RegEx 4 technology allows network security vendors to create accelerated appliances from 10Mbps to 10Gbps.

Netronome preview a Multi Gigabit rate flow processing system. Highlights include: PCI Express card combining Intel IXP2850 and security hardware; custom FPGA accelerating communication between IA and IXP processors; Netronome Flow Kernel providing a real-time flow processing platform; Virtual Machine support allowing existing, unmodified, infrastructure applications to run.

The Network Systems Design Conference will attract attendees from the following specialties: communications equipment designers, networking silicon designers, systems analysts & integrators, design services providers, marketing & engineering managers, consultants, networking hardware OEMS, software & hardware support.
