LSI Logic's DVD Recorder Processor Wins EDN Magazine Innovation Award for Consumer Electronics15 December 2005
LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI), the pioneer in innovative digital media processing technologies for the Digital Home, today announced that EDN China has selected the LSI DoMiNo(R) 8653 (DMN-8653) as the winner of an annual Innovation Award in the Consumer Electronics category. This DVD recorder processor offers the industry's first single-chip solution to integrate dual encoding while reducing bill-of-materials (BOM) for HDD/DVD recorders. The DMN-8653 competed against 119 products from 43 companies in eight different categories to win the Leading Product Award.

This is the third year that a product based on the LSI DoMiNo architecture has received an EDN award. In 2004, LSI DMN-8602 and DMN-8652 DVD recorder processors were honored in EDN's "Hot 100 Products of 2004." Prior to that, the DMN-8650 was a finalist in EDN's "14th Annual Innovator/Innovation of the Year Awards."
The LSI DMN-8653 allows DVD recorder manufacturers to offer market-leading features, such as the simultaneous digital recording of two channels, or recording one TV program while viewing and using PVR functions on another channel. For the highest-quality video recording and viewing, the DMN-8653 includes proprietary pre- and post-processing DVFX(TM) technologies. The processor also supports video encoding in MPEG-4/DivX(R) formats, which allow up to 12 hours of record time on a single DVD disc or hundreds of hours onto the HDD. By offering all of these features in a single-chip processor, the DMN-8653 significantly reduces the system-level costs compared to other solutions that rely on multiple chips.
The Annual Innovation Award was established by EDN in Silicon Valley 14 years ago. EDN China introduced the award into China this year to meet the demand of China's fast growing microelectronics industry. Winners were selected by experts and readers for their favorite products.
