Industry Veteran Chris Franey Joins Samsung Electronics America, Inc. as Vice President of Commercial Sales - Information Technology Division25 July 2006
Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a global leader in semiconductor, telecommunication, digital media and digital convergence technologies, today named industry veteran Chris Franey as vice president of commercial sales for the Information Technology Division. Franey brings more than 25 years of experience in technology sales, marketing and general management experience in domestic and international markets to his new role at ITD. Franey was formally president of ViewSonic Americas, and also served as president and managing director of Europe, senior vice president of Global Sales, sales vice president for the Americas, director of sales for North and South America and national sales manager for the company. While there, he was chief architect of the company's global sales strategies and channel-related tactics and played a key role in developing and maintaining the company's extensive global sales channel network. "Chris' strong background in sales and his understanding of the channel will be an asset to the company and the division," said YJ Park, president of Samsung's Information Technology Division. "His background complements our existing channel relationships and fosters the company's ability to continue to provide innovative products and first-rate customer service to our customers and distributors." Prior to ViewSonic, Franey worked at Kurta Corporation, a leading computer peripheral manufacturer specializing in the CAD, graphics and pen-based computer markets, where he established and managed the company's global channel sales network and staff in North America, Latin America and Australia. He also served as senior regional manager at Moore Corporation, handling sales/marketing, facilities management and P&L responsibility for the retail network. Chris Franey takes over the role of vice president of commercial sales from John Johasky, who has been acting in a dual role at Samsung as vice president of commercial sales and vice president of marketing for the division since October 2005. During this time, he used his channel relationships to build on the success of the division. With Franey's appointment, Johasky will be able to solely oversee the division's marketing efforts, allowing Samsung to further strengthen the partnership between sales and marketing. "John has made some strong contributions to the IT division and I look forward to building on those efforts," said Franey. "Samsung has always been known as a leader in the industry, devoted to developing innovative products and leading technology. I look forward to working closely with John and the team to meet the needs of the company and move the IT division forward." YJ Park and John Johasky will continue to support and oversee the channel initiatives and programs during the transition process.
