Gov. Richardson Good for New Mexico Economy Says Author of 'Albuquerque: The Next Boomtown'24 October 2006

Richardson's policies for New Mexico have helped Albuquerque become a boomtown, says Cheryl Gorder, author of "Albuquerque: The Next Boomtown." She cites Forbes' Magazine giving Albuquerque the #1 spot on the list of Best Cities for Business and Careers. In doing so, the magazine stated
that "The Land of Enchantment has become the Home of Accommodation."
New Mexico ranks high in business incentives, creating a draw for relocating companies. "Albuquerque has a goldmine of incentives," said Expansion Magazine. Local and state government incentives and support can be a strong factor in site location decisions. The ease with which a company can work with local officials is an important issue, and future
growth is largely dependent on the philosophies of local and state governments.
Governor Richardson is assisted in attracting business to the state by the State of New Mexico Development Alliance and New Economic Development Partnership. Businesses that have been drawn to Albuquerque are AOL, Eclipse Aviation, Verizon, Gap Inc., Honeywell Defense Avionics Systems,
Matrix Solar, Sennheiser Electronics, and Tempur-Pedic International. Businesses that have chosen to expand in Albuquerque are Advent Solar, NanoPore, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, T-Mobile, Cardinal Health, UniRac, Cabot Superior Micropowders, and many more.
Besides technology companies, the region attracts renewable energy businesses. The state of New Mexico is actively fostering an environment where energy companies can thrive. Governor Richardson is a former U.S. Energy Secretary and the creator of the Solar Power Task Force, which has a mission to increase solar power in the state's energy supply. "New Mexico is going to become the fastest-growing renewable energy state," according to Richardson.
