Gartner Energy & Utilities IT Summit to Feature Vyyo Case Study on Secure, Private Wireless Solutions for Utility Industry

21 September 2005

Vyyo Inc.
(Nasdaq: VYYO), a global supplier of broadband access equipment and turn-key
customized, private broadband wireless network solutions, today announced that
CTO Mike Ritter, Ph.D., will be presenting a case study of wireless automation
solutions for the electric utility industry at the Gartner Energy & Utilities
IT Summit 2005 later this month.
During the September 26th through 28th conference at the Hilton Austin in
Austin, Texas, Dr. Ritter will discuss the successful deployment of Vyyo's
wireless solution by Northern Electric Cooperative, a South Dakota provider of
electricity and broadband Internet services. Northern Electric is using the
Vyyo Utility Solution to enable low latency, real time SCADA (supervisory
control and data acquisition) monitoring, enterprise monitoring and the
delivery of commercial broadband services.
Vyyo has developed an end-to-end wireless solution for utility providers
that uses 700 MHz licensed spectrum to provide greater efficiency by replacing
legacy dial-up monitoring with cost-effective high-speed wireless data
services. Vyyo's technology enables accurate, real time assessment of
consumption, allowing the reduction of excess power generation or reallocation
of power generation. In addition, the Vyyo solution is designed to allow
utility customers to generate additional revenues using the same technology by
providing high-speed Internet services to rural commercial and residential
subscribers.
"The advanced wireless technologies that are being deployed by forward-
thinking companies like Northern Electric can deliver positive economic
results for utilities at several levels," said Dr. Ritter. "In addition to
increasing monitoring efficiency and enabling more efficient generation of
power, our solution allows our customers to create entirely new revenue
streams by bringing broadband services to previously unserved or underserved
areas of the country."
Dr. Ritter joined Vyyo in July 2004, after having served as CTO of MetroFi
Inc., a wireless service provider start-up, and at Mobility Networks.
Previously, Dr. Ritter was with Metricom Inc., where he rose from director of
software engineering to CTO, and was manager of open systems development at
Apple Computer, Inc. He also has held various consulting and research
positions at ON World Inc., Vyyo, Avide Wireless, Inc., ChainCast Networks,
Ricochet Networks, Inc., AdStrata LLC, Lockheed Space and Missiles Co.,
Stanford University and Lawrence Livermore Laboratories and was a visiting
staff member at Los Alamos National Laboratories.

About Vyyo Inc. and Xtend Networks, a Vyyo company Vyyo provides cable and
wireless broadband access solutions. Our products are designed for use by
utilities, cable television and telecommunication operators, wireless ISPs and
enterprise. Our solutions enable utilities to operate secure wireless
networks for communications and SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data
Acquisition) of their remote assets. Cable television and telecommunication
operators, wireless ISPs and enterprise use our DOCSIS-based solutions to
deliver telephony (T1/E1), high-speed data, and VOIP to business and
residential subscribers. Our cable bandwidth expansion solutions are designed
to expand cable operators' typical HFC (hybrid-fiber coax) network capacity in
the "last mile" by up to 2x in the downstream and up to 10x in the upstream,
addressing bandwidth demand for T1 and other advanced services. For more
