Eisa Awards Hottest New High-Tech Gear At IFA Opening

4 September 2005

This year’s EISA Awards ceremony, hosted by German TV personality Susanne Philipp, has been timed to coincide with the opening of the IFA electronics show in Berlin on September 2.

By co-operating closely with IFA organizers gfu (Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik), EISA aims to help show-visitors (consumer and trade alike) recognize and understand the latest product developments in entertainment technology. EISA member magazines are now publicizing the Awards and there will be coverage in the daily IFA newspaper (IFAheute) published during the event.

A complete press kit, including brand-new images from the 2005 Awards ceremony, is available online at

As an organization populated by journalists, EISA moves with the times, continually observing the state of the art and adjusting its Awards categories to reflect the latest developments.

This year, in addition to highlighting the ‘best of breed’ offerings in photographic, audio, home theatre, video and mobile electronics, EISA has elected Europe’s first Green TV of the Year, the Panasonic TX-28PN1. This award recognizes frugal use of energy and high recyclability, and was decided with the help of prof. dr. ir. Ab Stevels (Professor of Design for Sustainability) and dr. Casper Boks at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

In 2005 EISA has also created two new awards to recognise the ultra-fast convergence between information technology and traditional media formats. The amazing Nokia N90 camera phone is the inaugural European Media Phone of the Year, while the D-Link Media Player DSM-320RD, a wireless bridge between traditional hi-fi and PC multimedia, has been voted the first European Network Player of the Year.

EISA is also growing as an organisation, having this year added its first member magazine from Turkey, Home & Technology, which is now a member of EISA’s Audio & Home Theatre Panel. This recognises Turkey’s huge expansion as a consumer electronics market since 2000.

As sales of consumer electronics spiral upwards, and new technology is increasingly replacing older systems in novel and unpredictable ways, EISA is one of the few beacons of independence and excellence that can be trusted to guide purchasers towards the best brands, best models, proven technologies and lasting formats.

Every year since its foundation in 1982, EISA has elected European Award winning products which have proved themselves not only winners in individual magazine tests all over Europe, but also as the ‘Best of the Best’ on a democratic consensus of Europe’s leading specialist publications. The EISA Award logo signifies integrity, credibility and quality. EISA makes the perfect expert guide to the ‘must-see’ exhibits of IFA 2005.
