Dick Smith Electronics opens in Ashburton


Dick SmithElectronics opens its 62nd New Zealand store this week, inAshburton.


New Zealand general manager Stu Meadows saidthat with more than 25,000 people living in the Ashburtondistrict, it made sense to site a full company store in thetown.


"Until now, our nearest stores were in Timaru andChristchurch -- nearly an hour s drive away," he said.


"Wesaw that there was a very strong case for opening a store inAshburton."


The new 275 square metre store is in East St,in the centre of town, and stocks a full range of consumerelectronics. The store will have its official gala openingthis weekend, but has had its doors open for business sincelast week.


"We re very pleased with the response to date,"Mr Meadows said.


"We ve been trading verystrongly."


Other centres in which Dick Smith Electronicshas recently opened stores include Queenstown, Whakatane,The Base in Hamilton, Masterton, Napier, Upper Hutt andWellington s eastern suburbs. It has also nearly doubled thetrading floor at the giant Dick Smith Electronics PowerHousestore in Hamilton.
