CMC Electronics Achieves Prototype Acceptance By Canadian Department of National Defence for CP-140 Aurora Navigation and Flight Instruments Moderniza18 January 2006
CMC Electronics Inc. has realized a major milestone event on December 9th, 2005, by achieving Prototype Acceptance for the CP-140 Aurora Navigation and Flight Instruments Modernization Project (NFIMP) with Canada's Department of National Defence (DND). CMC Electronics procured, integrated and proved compliance for the new avionics suite installed on the prototype CP-140 aircraft, by successfully completing the flight test program. To date, the CMC modification has been installed and tested on three CP-140 aircraft.
CMC Electronics is the avionics management system supplier and systems integrator for the contract, valued at approximately $80 million (CDN). As prime contractor, CMC Electronics has total responsibility for a turnkey project that provides proven modern avionics equipment with significantly enhanced systems performance and reliability to support existing missions, while offering a clear growth path to meet future performance requirements and incremental system upgrades.
"The NFIMP Prototype acceptance is a major step towards the modernization of Canada's fleet of Aurora aircraft," said Bruce Lewis, DND's Project Manager for the CP-140 Aurora modernization program. "The updated aircraft will enhance the ability of our pilots and aircrews to perform missions of significant importance to the armed forces."

Mr Ramji also stated: "The teamwork demonstrated by all the sub-contractors on the project, including IMP, who is responsible for the installation of the avionics equipment on the aircraft, has been exemplary."

As a result of developing, integrating, testing and installing the system, CMC has the tools and knowledge needed to offer a complete solution to P-3 and other aircraft users, significantly reducing the costs and risks associated with their avionics upgrade program."
This DND program represents a major initiative aimed at sustaining the CP-140 Aurora's long-term capabilities. The CP-140 long-range patrol aircraft must remain capable of supporting combined multinational missions as well as independent assignments in both domestic and international, civilian and military scenarios.
