China Unicom and AirSurprise Use Performance Technologies' Advanced Managed Platform(TM) Products for Local Number Portability

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 10 -- Performance Technologies (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading developer of systems, platforms, components and software solutions, today announced that AirSurprise Technologies, Ltd. has successfully deployed a local number portability solution built upon the Performance Technologies Advanced Managed Platform(TM) offering. The solution will be used for China Unicom International, the world's third largest mobile telecommunications operator.

China Unicom is a world-class telecommunications operator, with more than 90 million GSM and CDMA subscribers. Operating since 2004, the company's local number portability system acts as a key interface to the company's international and domestic call service.

Integrated in the Advanced Managed Platform is the SG5600 Signaling Gateway Blade, a robust, turnkey SS7/IP signaling gateway that provides a signaling bridge between traditional telephone networks and burgeoning, packet-switched VoIP architectures. This carrier-grade system-in-a-slot provides the SS7 "on ramp" that enables IP telephony applications to emulate the call control functionality or service processing capabilities of traditional, circuit-switched telephone network switches.
