China Unicom and AirSurprise Use Performance Technologies' Advanced Managed Platform(TM) Products for Local Number Portability12 January 2006
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 10 -- Performance Technologies (Nasdaq: PTIX), a leading developer of systems, platforms, components and software solutions, today announced that AirSurprise Technologies, Ltd. has successfully deployed a local number portability solution built upon the Performance Technologies Advanced Managed Platform(TM) offering. The solution will be used for China Unicom International, the world's third largest mobile telecommunications operator. China Unicom is a world-class telecommunications operator, with more than 90 million GSM and CDMA subscribers. Operating since 2004, the company's local number portability system acts as a key interface to the company's international and domestic call service. "Having used Performance Technologies products in the past, we were confident we could provide China Unicom International with high quality, carrier-grade systems," said Wang Song, general manager for AirSurprise Technologies. "The company's Advanced Managed Platform products, featuring the SG5600 Signaling Gateway Blade, will enable us to quickly deploy new applications for the carrier, ensuring they can offer new, high quality services to their subscribers." "We are impressed with the rapid deployment and ease-of-use provided by Performance Technologies' Advanced Managed Platform offering," said Lin Rixin, technical assistant director for China Unicom International. "This integrated platform solution fits our requirement to provide subscribers with network stability and quality services like local number portability." Performance Technologies' Advanced Managed Platform offering is comprised of the company's embedded packet products and offers the most complete set of high availability platforms, slot functionality and development and communications software on the market. The solution is designed to be application-ready, minimizing integration efforts and time-to-market for equipment manufacturers. Integrated in the Advanced Managed Platform is the SG5600 Signaling Gateway Blade, a robust, turnkey SS7/IP signaling gateway that provides a signaling bridge between traditional telephone networks and burgeoning, packet-switched VoIP architectures. This carrier-grade system-in-a-slot provides the SS7 "on ramp" that enables IP telephony applications to emulate the call control functionality or service processing capabilities of traditional, circuit-switched telephone network switches. "Combining our embedded signaling gateway capabilities with our fully managed Advanced Managed Platform allows carriers like China Unicom to deploy new services using lower-cost IP networks without compromising the carrier- grade reliability they require," said Tony Romero, product manager for Performance Technologies. "Our relationship with AirSurprise Technologies exemplifies our ability to offer cost-effective, high quality solutions to carriers in China and across the globe."
