Chelsio Communications Announces Support of Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Scalable Network Pack25 May 2006
Chelsio Communications Inc., a leading provider of 10GbE and iSCSI acceleration adapters and ASIC solutions, today announced it is working with Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) to support Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack on its complete line of 10Gb Ethernet networking solutions to improve the performance of Microsoft Windows Server 2003.
The focus of the collaboration is on improving the efficiency of network protocol processing on Windows Server 2003. Improved efficiency frees up networking-related central processing unit (CPU) overhead, resulting in a boost to overall system performance and a reduction of system bottlenecks. Scalable Networking Pack enhancements will also play a key role in increasing scalability and enabling next-generation servers to meet the performance criteria of today's Ethernet networks.
Innovations in data communications technology, fueled by bandwidth- intensive applications, have led to order of magnitude improvements in networking hardware throughput occurring every four years. These performance improvements, which have gone from 10 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 100 Mbps, and now to 1-Gigabit per second (Gbps) with 10-Gigabit arriving, have far surpassed the CPU's ability to keep pace. To compensate for this difference, Chelsio's compatible adapters for Scalable Networking Pack will allow optimal TCP/IP protocol processing on Windows symmetric multi-processor (SMP) systems and free the CPU for application computing requirements.
