CEYX Technologies Starts Shipping Next-Generation Digital Backlight Solution for LCD Displays

CEYX(R) Technologies, Inc. today announced that its LightSmart D100 ASIC will begin shipping for sampling to a number of customers in Asia-Pacific during March 2006.

"The feedback from the display manufacturers has been extremely encouraging, and we're excited to see our innovation being implemented with some of the major players in the market," says Carol Fuller, CEO and founder of CEYX Technologies. "A key challenge in the LCD display market is to make flat screen TVs more affordable for the consumers. Our revolutionary design not only encompasses the market requirements for next-generation digital technology, but also significantly cuts manufacturing costs," Fuller continues.

The LightSmart D100 solution consists of the CEYX ASIC, an integrated circuit, a firmware engine that resides in any off-the-shelf microcontroller and a reference design to facilitate full implementation of the solution. The digital solution enables use of one inverter to drive multiple Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL) while ensuring the uniformity of illumination across the CCFL array. CEYX' digital approach will also allow LCD TV manufacturers to offer future capabilities like progressive dimming and other visual enhancements.

"Going from analog to digital backlight design will revolutionize the industry. The CEYX ASIC is making that a reality this year," says Jim Day, VP of Sales and Marketing, CEYX Technologies. "This industry's first digital backlight solution is designed in a way that you only need a single transformer to drive up to 10 lamps, while allowing each lamp current to be controlled individually by firmware embedded in the microcontroller. The result is fewer components and reduced costs for the manufacturers, as well as greatly improved CCFL balancing."

CEYX Technologies expects general availability of its LightSmart D100 solution by mid-2006.
