Analogix Semiconductor and Genesis Microchip Demonstrate DisplayPort(TM) Interface25 October 2005
Analogix Semiconductor andGenesis Microchip, a world leader in the development of imageprocessing, today announced they successfully demonstrated the DisplayPort(TM)interface prototype to the Display Systems Committee of VESA (VideoElectronics Standards Association) last week. The DisplayPort interface specification, presented for ratification inAugust 2005 by VESA, provides a high-quality digital interface for video andaudio content with optional secure content protection, in a highly extensibleformat. This enables a wide range of source and display devices to be simplyand securely connected. The standard has broad applications including LCD,plasma, CRT and projection displays, as well as PCs and other sources of imagecontent. DisplayPort is an open standard. "We are enthusiastic about our collaboration with Genesis and the futureof DisplayPort," said Bill Eichen, president and COO of Analogix. "OurDisplayPort IP cores and devices aim to reduce development costs and bill ofmaterials for all DisplayPort adopters." "We are very excited about this joint effort with Analogix that enabled usto demonstrate what we believe will become the industry's preferredinterconnect between video, graphics and high definition audio applications,"said Anders Frisk, executive vice president of Genesis Microchip. "Similar tothe way the Ethernet interface became the platform for modern datacommunication, we see DisplayPort as the enabler of future entertainmenttechnology." In addition to the DisplayPort transmitter IP core, Analogix alsoannounced it will begin sampling its ANX9801 DisplayPort Transmitter ICs in Q12006.
