13 Is Lucky In Las Vegas

25 February 2006

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings splashed into Las Vegas to play the numbers game against the Wranglers. With 13 players on the roster, the S-Kings took two points from the second-seed Wranglers in a 3-2 Overtime victory.

Victoria struck first as KC Timmons capitalized on a Pat Sutton point shot. Timmons, set up on the left circle, chipped the rebound into the open cage 7:56 into the first period.

With just 0.7 seconds left in the frame, Las Vegas tied it up. Victoria native Sean O'Connor popped in a power play goal as the Wranglers won the face off in Salmon King territory.

Las Vegas got snake eyes in the second as Steve Crampton poked in the puck that was teetering on the goal line from a five hole shot by teammate Chris Stanley.

The Wranglers carried the lead 2-1 in the third until Steve Roberts hit paydirt on a one-two-three punch from the Salmon Kings. Tyler Shybunka took the first shot on Netminder Marc Magliarditi, and Roberts whacked at the rebound a couple of times to light the lamp.

The Salmon Kings Goaltender BJ Boxma made clutch saves nearing the end of the third to force Victoria's fifth game to go into extra periods since January 27, 2006.

Victoria roped the Wranglers with just 50 seconds left in Overtime. In Wrangler territory, Captain Ryan Wade won the face off to Defenseman Steve Lingren along the right boards. Lingren carried the puck across the slot and wired it top corner to earn his 19th goal, 4th game winning goal, and 3rd overtime goal of the season.

Victoria was 0-2 on the power play and Las Vegas grabbed one score out of four opportunities. Boxma earned his third win of the season and Magliarditi was dealt his eighth loss. Las Vegas out shot Victoria 34-20 in front of a crowd of 3865.

After finishing 1-2 on their second to last road trip of the season, the Salmon Kings will trek home to pull out the cards against the Alaska Aces. Game one of two will take place on Friday February 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
